What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice that involves the gentle insertion of fine, sterile, single-use needles at very specific points on the body.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works primarily on the nervous system, with specific sites along pathways in the body known as ‘meridians’ or ‘channels’. When stimulated with acupuncture needles create physiological responses within the body.
What can I expect during a session?
Your initial consultation will involve developing an understanding of your health history and primary concerns. As a Chinese Medicine practitioner I will take your pulse, ask to see your tongue, conduct some palpation on your abdomen and then focus on a gentle and effective acupuncture techniques which create shifts within the nervous system.
Does acupuncture hurt?
When carried out by a trained practitioner acupuncture does not hurt, the needles used are generally finer than hair - resulting in very minimal sensation of the needles but a gentle feeling of warmth, tingling or movement around the site of the needle is very common.
How many sessions do you need to have?
This will be dependent on what your health goals are, but acupuncture does have an accumulative effect - meaning that while you may feel very relaxed with less tension in your body after one session, to make lasting difference it is generally recommended that weekly session are conducted for 4-6 weeks - but this will be dependent on the presenting individual.
